CIS countries sign cooperation agreement in heavy engineering

MINSK, 5 June (BelTA) - An agreement on cooperation in heavy engineering between the CIS member states was signed during a meeting of the CIS Heads of Government Council in Dushanbe on 5 June, BelTA learned from the CIS Executive Committee’s press service.

This sector is considered one of the leading industries within the CIS, accounting for more than half of the total output of the mechanical engineering industry. This has a significant impact on the structure of national economies and their overall competitiveness.

The agreement was deemed necessary due to economic feasibility, increased technological capabilities, and the need to joint efforts among government authorities, industrial enterprises, and research organizations in CIS countries. The goal is to support manufacturers in a competitive market, promote their products, and integrate new scientific and technological advancements into the industrial sector of the CIS countries.

The draft agreement was developed by Tajikistan and is based on key provisions of the CIS development concept, the plan for its implementation, the CIS economic development strategy until 2030, the industrial cooperation concept, and other fundamental documents that promote cooperation in manufacturing industry and new technologies.

The document focuses on boosting efforts in information exchange and exchanging best practices in industrial development, training highly qualified personnel, fostering cooperation in emerging technology fields, modernizing production technologies, and creating and supporting production chains. These measures aim to expand production volumes and exports of innovative, competitive, and high-tech products with high added value, including exports to third countries.

Priority areas of joint activity include innovation-driven development and modernization of technologies and equipment for heavy engineering. The agreement also focuses on the advancement of engineering industries that design and produce machinery, equipment, and tools for metallurgy, mining, energy, oil and gas, chemical industries, and the production of large-scale metal structures and components.
