MINSK, 27 May (BelTA) - Russia continues work on preparing a memorandum on Ukraine which will outline the principles and tentative dates of the settlement, spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said at a briefing for the press, TASS reports.

"Russia continues drafting the memorandum regarding the future peace treaty, defining a number of aspects, such as the principles of the settlement, the timeline of the potential peace agreement, and the possible ceasefire for a limited time period if relevant agreements are reached," she said.

Maria Zakharova added that as soon as the memorandum is ready, it will be submitted to Kiev. “We expect that the Ukrainian side is doing the same work and will send us its draft as they receive the Russian document,” the spokeswoman said.

Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky appears to be trying to block the momentum for peace.

"He [Zelensky] has been begging his patrons to increase assistance to Bankovaya Street [Zelensky’s office]. Well, everybody knows where this assistance goes and how it is used: part of it is squandered or used to kill citizens in Ukraine itself. Why are Zelensky and those behind him doing so?" the diplomat asked before she continued with an answer. "Obviously, to derail the momentum for peace. Those who genuinely seek peace do not hatch up plans to send more weapons to the region, to make them even deadlier and to escalate the situation to make sure the process recently launched in Istanbul does not progress," she said.
