MINSK, 6 June (BelTA) – During a media scrum following the meeting with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko in Minsk, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia commented on Russia-Ukraine POW exchanges that are aided by the Belarusian side, BelTA reports.

“We did not talk specifically about this. But this is a very important humanitarian topic. It is about people's lives. The church has always believed that whenever it is possible, whenever it does not entail any dangerous consequences (we know that there have been all sorts of situations related to the exchange of prisoners), it is necessary to carry out such swaps. This is about human lives,” he said.

Speaking about the war, Patriarch Kirill noted that even if something is done in the name of good, you cannot avoid victims and human suffering. “Therefore, the Church has always insisted that if it is impossible to completely eliminate this suffering, it must be minimized as much as possible. And this primarily concerns the fate of prisoners,” added Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia.
