Sabalenka reaches first Roland Garros final

MINSK, 6 June (BelTA) — Belarus’ World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka defeated French Open defending champion, Poland’s World No.5 Iga Swiatek 7-6(7-1), 4-6, 6-0 in their French Open semifinal showdown on 5 June to reach her first Roland Garros final, BelTA has learned.

The match lasted for two hours and 22 minutes. On Saturday, 7 June, the Belarusian will face World No.2 Coco Gauff of the United States.

On her way to the final Aryna Sabalenka defeated Russia’s world number 86 Kamilla Rakhimova, World No.97 Jil Teichmann of Switzerland, Serbia’s world number 34 Olga Danilovic, World No.16 Amanda Anisimova of the United States, and China’s world number 7 Zheng Qinwen. Last year Aryna Sabalenka lost to Mirra Andreeva in the quarterfinal. In 2023 the Belarusian lost to Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic in the semifinal.  

For 2025, the overall prize pool sits at €56.3 million, with the winners in the men’s and women’s singles earning €2.55 million and 2,000 points. The previous women’s singles event was won by Iga Swiatek of Poland. Carlos Alcaraz of Spain was victorious in the men’s event.
